“Currently, the Indonesian Navy is faced with a developing strategic environment and very complex task demands, so Indonesian Navy soldiers must have knowledge and understanding of international humanitarian law. “Apart from that, students interning with the Indonesian Navy are also required to take part in combat simulation activities to attack an enemy country’s naval base and analyze which parts of the enemy base can be attacked and which cannot be attacked,” said the speaker.

Apart from the presentation of the material, there was also a question-and-answer session between the resource person and the seminar participants. “I am happy to be able to take part in the Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law and the San Remo Manual with Indonesian Navy Soldiers on Lantamal V with resource persons from the Legal Service of the Indonesian Navy Headquarters. Guest Lecture Discusses the Role of Legal-Technopreneurship in Corruption Prevention

(30/11/2023) | The Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) Lecture Series entitled “Legal Innovation in the Digital World: The Role of Legal Technopreneurship in Supporting Corruption Prevention” was completed last Thursday (9/11/2023). The guest lecturer in Room 206 Building A FH UNAIR invited Dadang Trisasongko, S.H., as Secretary General of Transparency International Indonesia 2013 – 2020 and Kemenkopolhukam Legal Reform Acceleration Team member.

Dadang explained three essential things in techno-legalpreneurship: technology, law, and entrepreneurship. He refers to information technology, digitalization, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. According to him, to realize legal-technopreneurship, it is necessary to utilize all types of technology.

“Meanwhile, the law includes expanding access and improving procedures and the substance of legal services, which aims to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of legal services. “Then, entrepreneurship includes the ability to read market opportunities, develop products, and market services innovatively,” explained Dadang.

Dadang also introduced an Integrated Information Technology-Based Criminal Case Handling System (SPPT-TI). SPPT-TI is an online digital platform connected to all law enforcement agencies and coordinated by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.

“The SPPT-TI system was launched in early 2019 to strengthen coordination, accountability, and transparency in handling criminal cases,” said Dadang.

Apart from the SPPT-TI system, Dadang explained other platforms, such as Korupedia, SAKTI, Anti-Corruption Academy, and opentender.net. Korupedia is an online digital platform for public education, court supervision, and strengthening public participation in preventing corruption. SAKTI and the Anti-Corruption Academy are online and offline anti-corruption education platforms developed by Indonesia Corruption Watch to increase knowledge, skills, and commitment to eradicating corruption, targeting lay participants, professionals, private employees, government employees, and academics. Meanwhile, opentender.net is an online database for government procurement of goods and services developed by Indonesia Corruption Watch to encourage transparency in the procurement process for goods and services and track the risk of corruption in the procurement process and during the implementation of government projects.

“The challenge today is that public institutions are still weak in fulfilling their legal obligations to comply with the Law on Openness of Public Information. Much data and information that should be accessible to the public is kept secret. Apart from that, cooperation and coordination between state institutions are also not optimal. Many legal professionals are not fully aware of the important role of information technology in supporting their profession. “On the other hand, the costs of developing digital platforms are still expensive,” explained Dadang.

In response to these challenges, Dadang advised campuses to take a more active role in encouraging the openness of public information in the legal sector and developing digitalization studies related to the legal profession. He also emphasized the importance of literacy regarding using information technology to support legal work.

The Excitement of FH UNAIR Students Internship at BNL Patent

(10/31/2023) | The Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) Faculty of Law, Airlangga University (FH UNAIR) has been implemented since August 2023. A total of 64 students from FH UNAIR took part in the PKKM program spread across various institutions in the cities of Jakarta and Surabaya.

One of FH UNAIR’s partners in the PKKM program this time is BNL Patent. BNL Patent is an intellectual property consultant located in Surabaya. There are five FH UNAIR students from the 2020 and 2021 classes who are carrying out PKKM internships at BNL Patent, namely Melva Emely Laurentius, Zulfa Nabila Qonita, Nicolas Rafael Kreshna Mukti, Angelila Milano Aryani Wibisono, and Bryan Owen Soeprapto.

The five FH UNAIR students were divided into two parts. First, there is the litigation section containing Melva and Nicolas. The litigation section is focused on dealing with legal problems experienced by BNL Patent. Then, there is the non-litigation section consisting of Angelica, Bryan, and Zulfa.

“Each student is placed in a different division, and there is a scheduled job rotation during the internship process. “The division rotation is carried out every two weeks because there are six divisions there,” said Angelica.

Angelica said that during her internship in the non-litigation department, she gained much experience and new knowledge. He knows in detail about the documents required in the application process for registering intellectual property rights, both domestically and abroad.

Zulfa added that they also studied what legal solutions or efforts were made in intellectual property rights applications, primarily when obstacles occurred during the administrative process or appeals.

“Apart from that, we are also given experience in terms of ethics and procedures for communicating with clients, both online and offline. “We were also introduced to how to submit applications online using an application or website,” continued Bryan.

They are also given material outside of internships, such as submitting international applications.

“We who intern at BNL Patent get various weekly classes from intellectual property rights consultants and experts from DJKI. “The material provided is varied but remains in the corridor of intellectual property; for example, there is material on trademarks, industrial designs, patents, and copyrights,” explained Zulfa.

In the litigation section, Melva and Nicolas also gained many new insights, including legal action against violations of intellectual property rights, how to make a lawsuit and answer, and the mechanism for reporting PPNS in DJKI.

Brand material includes administrative processes and in-depth research regarding rejected marks, unregisterable marks, the Madrid protocol or international applications, brand appeals, brand lawsuits, and the brand check analysis process. Meanwhile, industrial design material includes a detailed introduction to industrial design, the intersection of industrial design with copyright, trademark, and patents, as well as industrial design lawsuits.

“We feel that the knowledge we gain here is very different from the knowledge gained in classes because, at BNL Patent, we can explore practices related to intellectual property rights. One of the interesting materials is branding material, which gives us experience from the media side and how to introduce services to the public using a social media approach. “The valuable experience of participating in the PKKM program helps students prepare themselves in advance to face the dynamics of the world of work in the future,” said Nicolas.

Melva also said that she was happy to be able to take part in the group discussion forum agenda at BNL Patent. One of the exciting discussions, according to her, was regarding the parties interested in the lawsuit for the removal of a brand and the drafting of a patent, where the draft patent must be able to describe the scope of the patent that is to be protected.

“Hopefully, FH UNAIR can maintain good relations with BNL Patent so that the internship program at BNL Patent will continue. “I also hope that BNL Patent can continue to open opportunities for FH UNAIR students who want to learn about intellectual property rights law,” concluded Bryan.

UNAIR Faculty of Law Strengthens MBKM Program Implementation Through Legal Clinic Programs, PLKH, and Learning with the Community

(12/7/2023) | The higher education curriculum is one part of the teaching instrument that elaborates on society’s needs and demands in the present and the future. The community’s needs will continue to develop every year to the developments and demands of the times, so the higher education curriculum must always and always need to be adjusted and harmonized with existing needs and developments. The curriculum is not an instrument that cannot be changed. Still, it develops dynamically and needs to be reviewed and reviewed at least once every five years to suit the needs and demands of the community who use higher education graduates.

The Bachelor of Law Study Program, Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga (FH UNAIR) is redesigning the curriculum in 2023. One of the changes is related to the PLKH and Legal Clinic courses. In addition, the preparation of this new RPS is also expected to strengthen students’ knowledge of law practice and produce an ideal RPS that can be implemented in guiding students in every lecture activity.

Strengthening MBKM Program, Faculty of Law UNAIR Collaborates with Faculty of Law Universitas Brawijaya

(7/7/2023) | The Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya, held a working visit to the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga (FH UNAIR) on Wednesday (5/7/2023). This visit was to establish cooperation and strengthen the MBKM program. The collaboration results were then stated in a cooperation agreement between FH UNAIR and FH Universitas Brawijaya.

Improving the quality of MBKM itself is a directive from the Ministry of Education and Culture to realize the goals of higher education, namely preparing adult human beings to become productive Pancasila citizens with a spirit of humanity and nationality, inclusiveness, and a strong nature of defending the country. Improving the quality of higher education includes improving the quality of education, research, community service, and higher education management. One of the steps needed to achieve an increase in the quality of higher education is to carry out cooperation between tertiary institutions.

On this occasion, Deputy Dean III of FH UNAIR, Maradona, also explained the international programs of FH UNAIR, such as double degree programs, summer school, and so on. These international programs were initiated and developed in the framework of the internationalization of FH UNAIR. “The MBKM collaboration with FH UNAIR is expected to increase the number of MBKM students between FH UNAIR and FH Universitas Brawijaya,” said Aan.

“For international programs, there will be several visiting schemes. Allocation of funds is in the faculty. Its implementation at the faculty level is assisted by the FIO (Faculty International Office) and the Faculty Ambassador (FA),” said Maradona.
