DIRECTOR OF HOPEHELPS UNAIR ADVOCACY UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF GENDER EQUALITY IN AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Public Relations (21/2/2022) | Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) UNAIR held a talk show on Saturday morning (19/2/2022) regarding the importance of gender equality in efforts to eradicate gender-based violence. HopeHelps UNAIR Director of Advocacy Apriska Widiangela was presented as a resource person at the event.

Angel, as he is known, said that the definition of gender equality can be found in Presidential Instruction 9/2000. It is equal conditions for men and women to obtain opportunities and their rights as human beings, to be able to play a role and participate in political, economic, socio-cultural, defense and national security activities and equality in enjoying the results of development.

“The way to achieve this is by eliminating gender inequality and discrimination. The understanding that all genders are equal and no one is stronger or weaker must be instilled from an early age. Things like catcalling, homophobia, and sexism should not be normalized,” said the student of FH UNAIR.

The impact of normalizing the gender gap is gender-based violence. The example given by Angel is the rampant sexual violence on campus which has become an iceberg phenomenon, because of the pretext of the campus’ good name and reporting back with the ITE Law. In fact, this has also been translated into the online world, with the rise of Online Gender-Based Violence (KBGO).

“These gaps can also generate gender stereotypes or expectations, which can lead to violence as well. Take for example a boy who is forced to always look manly, because otherwise he can be ridiculed with offensive words such as a sissy. This can affect a person’s mental condition,” said the former Coordinator of the Committee for the Study of the Rights of Women, Children, and Gender Diversity at Amnesty UNAIR.

By looking at the impact of the gender gap, Angel explained the importance of the victim’s perspective in the growth of gender equality. This means that people should give trust and assistance to victims of gender-based violence.
“Self-education and raising awareness about gender equality are also important. NGOs have conducted various research, education, and campaigns to increase public awareness. We can participate in these activities that help in the goal of equality, take the Women’s March for example,” she concluded.

COMPETITION PROGRESSIVITY, CMCC, AND ALUMNI RELATIONS: DIRECTOR GENERAL OF MYMA 2022’S OVERVIEW

Public Relations (5/2/2022) | Ridho Budaya Septarianto has been elected as Director General of the Yuris Muda Airlangga Society (MYMA) for the 2022 period. Ridho’s hope for the organization he leads is that he must be more progressive in participating in competitions. This means that MYMA members must dare to take part in competitions that they have never participated in, but are still in accordance with the realm of MYMA.

“To make it happen, I will focus more on the regeneration of human resources so that when participating in competitions, not only that, but also new seeds of superior quality. So that when competing, there are still people who have high flying hours, on the other hand also field new children so that they also understand the world of competition, “said the 2019 class student.
Ridho said that MYMA will also launch a Constitutional Moot Court Competition (CMCC) program. The CMCC is a quasi-judicial competition in the form of requests for judicial review, just like in the Constitutional Court. He added that this CMCC is a new area for MYMA which usually focuses on legal debate.

“The hope is that this program can improve students’ abilities in the field of constitution and state administration, especially in the field of constitutional justice,” said the former UNAIR Chapter Amnesty Internal Division Coordinator.

Several other things that will be realized in the 2022 management year are Gathering with Alumni. This seemingly trivial thing, according to Ridho, is crucial to implement, along with the development of MYMA with the birth of outstanding alumni. He also hopes to increase cooperation with outside parties for broadcasting MYMA events at a national level.

ACHIEVEMENTS NEVER STOP, NOW THE TURN OF THE NMCC DELEGATION OF THE SUPREME COURT CUP PROUD OF FH UNAIR’S NAME

Public Relation (16/02/2022) | College is an opportunity to explore as much experience as possible. One way that is often taken is by participating in competitions. Sometimes it starts from fun and trial and error, but ends with sweet results. For students of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, achievement is something that is constantly achieved every year. In 2022, the achievement was opened by the proud news from the delegation of the National Moot Court Competition (NMCC) of the XXIV Supreme Court Cup. Because they again won second place with the title of the Best Judge in the Final Round, the Best Public Prosecutor in the Final Round, and the Best Witness/Expert in the Final Round.

The National Moot Court Competition (NMCC) itself is an event that displays trial simulations at the national level. The Supreme Court Cup itself is a specialty in itself that makes it different from other similar competitions because it is the oldest competition and always raises the topic of criminal law as a case. This was stated directly by several delegate representatives in the FH Today podcast.

The delegation consists of eighteen people, namely, Dzaka Ananda Hidayat (2018), Wanda Farda Wahdini (2019), Rahajeng Dzakiyya Ikbar (2019), Ursula Paramitha Ramadini (2019), Durratul Hikmah Benga Tupen Riantobi (2019), Putri Athaya Hendraswari ( 2019), Sintia Irna Dianis Ifada (2019), Iqbal Umar Effendi (2019), Hanna Rosyidah (2019), Arya Alfiansyah (2020), Regina Aura Firdana (2020), Fakhira Dyna Putri Maharani Iksir (2020), Diqa Qothrunnadaa Amanda Nur Sella (2020), Muafasaid Ramadhan (2020), Regina Resentia (2020), Justisia Aura Najwa (2020), Muhammad Ilman Nur Arif (2020), and Tasya Syafira Putri Setya Alamsyah (2020). In addition, they were also accompanied by three Officials, namely, Fauzan Akhmad Dzaki (2018), Stefanus Bagas Adi Prayogi (2019), and Emmanuella Hotasi Jedidiah (2020).

Diqa himself explained that to get the award, they had to spend the last seven months doing various preparations from developing storylines and position cases to filing. Filing is the longest stage that must be passed because it takes time from the first day to the end of the competition. Research and consultations with various parties who understand their fields are also continuously carried out in order to obtain a mature storyline development. In addition, no less important is the practice of the trial itself which also takes a long time in order to explore roles such as judges, clerks, prosecutors, legal advisors, defendants, oaths, witnesses, and even experts. Various challenges were also experienced in the process, such as the busyness of each individual, difficulty in dividing time, maintaining commitment, to fostering good relationships between existing individuals.

In closing, Dzaka, who previously participated in the NMCC competition himself, revealed that it takes courage and awareness to participate in it. This is because not everyone is willing and interested in participating in the NMCC. Personally, he thinks that as a student it is important to take part in a competition, not only NMCC. The advantages of NMCC itself make it know more people to discuss together.

CRITICAL NOTES OF UNAIR ADMINISTRATIVE LAW EXPERT RELATED TO THE NUSANTARA

Public Relations (17/2/2022) | UNAIR Administrative Law expert Indria Wahyuni, Ph.D was invited to a webinar related to the pros and cons of moving the capital city from Jakarta to the archipelago. Held on Wednesday afternoon (16/2/2022), this activity was held by IBLAM School of Law. The material presented is to answer whether the relocation of the National Capital City (IKN) will be a success story, based on the legal aspects that already exist.
Indria explained that the government’s intention to build the archipelago was that apart from moving the center of government, there was a new economic center in Indonesia. He added that this relocation is relevant considering that Jakarta is facing environmental problems, namely the sinking of the city due to the effects of the climate crisis. In addition, Jokowi always echoes economic equality in Indonesia so that it is not Javacentric.
“However, is the solution to the environmental crisis in Jakarta is to move the capital? What about the option to fix the city from sinking? There have been many environmental studies that explain that the crisis in Jakarta can be overcome,” said the alumni of the University of Birmingham.

Talking about the environment, Indria also emphasized that the environmental aspect in East Kalimantan is plagued with various complexities. On the one hand, the area has biodiversity that must be preserved. On the other hand, the area is also crowded with mining and oil palm plantations. According to him, these polar interests often fail to be balanced by the government. Thus, problems such as massive deforestation, natural disasters, and negligence in the implementation of reclamation/post-mining are rife.
“Therefore, the grounds for moving the capital in the region should be thoroughly considered. Environmental aspects, sociological aspects, philosophical aspects must be clear so that this government policy does not fail. After all, IKN is a fantastic project with a budget of hundreds of trillions, so it’s not a joke,” said the Head of the FH UNAIR EBT Study Center.
However, Indria was disappointed to see how the legal aspects for IKN were treated. The DPR succeeded in passing the IKN Law within 43 days, which according to Indria was a very short time. According to him, how is it possible that the relocation of the capital, which must be considered very complex, can be completed in less than two months. He also complained that the Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) for the project is still not accessible to the public.

“Academic manuscripts (NA) from the IKN Law also appear to have been written in a rudimentary manner. In fact, the NA should be the basis for the study of why this law must be ratified as a form of accountability. There, the sociological and philosophical foundations do not explain why we have to move there at all? This makes the potential problems caused by IKN even more severe than the main goal, which I basically agree with,” he said.
Indria provides recommendations so that IKN does not become a failed project. In the future, the government should apply more precautionary principles in policies regarding IKN. Not only that, the policy-making process must prioritize transparency and accountability. Not to forget, the environmental aspect must be put forward so that the concept of a green city in the archipelago can be realized.

ALFINA AZZARAH PLANS TO HAVE WRITING CLASSES AND SCIENTIFIC DISCUSSION WITH STUDY CENTER AS A NEW INNOVATION FOR FH UNAIR KPS

Public Relations (15/02/2022) | The semi-autonomous body (BSO) of the pseudo-judicial community (KPS) is one of the largest student organizations (ormawa) at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga. In addition to having many members and often winning championships, this organization which is engaged in criminal law also has a myriad of achievements from alumni. Therefore, in the new management this year, KPS added two new bureaus/divisions, namely the Alumni Bureau under the external division and the Legal Research Bureau to support members’ research activities. This was stated by Alfina Azzarah Bella Pratiwi, Chair of the KPS for the 2021-2022 Management Period.

The Alumni Bureau has the main task of being a liaison between KPS FH UNAIR and KPS FH UNAIR Alumni. Meanwhile, the Legal Research Bureau has a legal opinion writing class work program and journal creation that functions to support the learning and research activities of KPS members, especially members who are participating in competitions. KPS is a scientific organization that has produced many outstanding students, so that with so many great alumni occupying important positions in the world of work, a bureau that bridges between alumni and members is needed. Apart from the two new bureaus, other bureaus that have existed since the previous year’s management are still being maximized so that the work program in each bureau can run successfully.

Alfina also said that he and his team already have future plans regarding where to take the KPS management this year. The plan is that KPS will send many delegates to competitions and be active in academic activities such as scientific discussions. The competitions that will be followed are not limited to moot court competitions, but also other competitions such as writing competitions. In addition, KPS plans to further revive the platforms owned by KPS so that the existence of the BSO is increasingly recognized both within and outside the scope of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga.

Finally, Alfina also explained that there would be new innovations from the previous year’s management, especially in conceptualizing work programs. Alfina also plans to collaborate with the FH UNAIR study center in the context of scientific discussions, scientific discussions, and community service. In addition, KPS also has an agenda to hold a national competition in the field of writing.
Once again, congratulations on the election of Alfina Azzarah Bella Pratiwi as the new KPS Chair. I hope that KPS will become a great organization with great achievements. KPS, Jaya!
