(12/12/2023) | As a Faculty of Law with an extensive alum network, the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University often holds several studies that discuss legal issues nationally and internationally. Recently, a talk, or what is known as “Cangkruk Online,” was held through a Zoom meeting involving FH UNAIR alumni, attended by most of the active FH UNAIR students.
In the Online Discussion organized by the Airlangga Family (Kalingga) in collaboration with the FH UNAIR Alumni Association, the topic was “Indonesia in the Middle of America vs China Competition” from an international legal and political perspective. This online discussion was attended by Kadir Jailani, S.H., M.A. as Director General of Asia Pacific and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, who is also an alumnus of FH UNAIR and did not forget that Dr. Didik S. This online discussion activity became even more enjoyable. Kadir Jailani, as a resource person, conveyed several things regarding diplomatic relations and economic developments carried out by the two countries. Kadir Jailani said that competition in the financial sector between China and America is a form of ideological war for economic reform.
“The United States as a superpower has the principle of developing its economy through a method commonly called the Liberal World Order, which is always disseminated to other countries. “This is different from China or what is now called China, which is starting to reform the communist economic system into a market economic system, which is the basis for developing the country’s economy,” said the Director General of Asia Pacific and Africa at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the end of the session in this online discussion, Kadir Jailani said that the Chinese economy’s significant presence could create a perception of a potential military threat from China.
“It can be perceived that China is a potential threat regarding state sovereignty. However, it can be said that China’s position is substantial in determining economic strategy towards Indonesia, so in this position, it is possible that China can politically align with Indonesia,” said Kadir Jailani.
