Public Relations (12/10/2024) | Ministry of Gender Equality and Ministry of Community Service of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga (BEM FH UNAIR) held an activity called 16 Days of Anti-Violence against Women (16 HAKTP) x PELITA: Caring for Disabilities Ministry of Gender Equality and Ministry of Community Service of BEM FH UNAIR, which aims to increase awareness, inclusion, and support for people with disabilities in Indonesia.

This activity was carried out to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. Although this work program cannot be implemented according to the 16HAKTP timeline, it is hoped that it will not reduce the essence of holding this work program.

In its implementation, this activity is divided into 2, namely Pre Event and Event. Pre-event involving children with disabilities at SLB YPAC Surabaya by providing donations and materials on sexual violence education. In addition, this work program creates moments of togetherness and positive interaction between FH UNAIR students and children with disabilities to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children with disabilities and to garner wider community support.

As a form of inclusiveness of the activity, this activity was also carried out by presenting a Sign Language Training Event in collaboration with the TIBA Community (Bisindo and Accessibility Team) Surabaya. This activity aims to facilitate effective communication between deaf people with disabilities and the wider community, thereby increasing empathy and sympathy from the community towards deaf friends. This event is open to the public, not limited to FH UNAIR students only, which is known to have more than 50 (fifty) participants consisting of various Faculties at Universitas Airlangga. This training not only equips participants with important communication skills, but also increases empathy and understanding of the needs of people with disabilities.
