FH UNAIR Maritime Law Lecturer Becomes Part of the Indonesian Delegation at the ASEAN Maritime Forum

(10/31/2023) | The 45th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group Meeting was completed on 17 – 19 October 2023 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The meeting was attended by all ASEAN member countries as well as other countries and international organizations such as Korea, China, Japan, the ASEAN Secretariat, the International Maritime Organization, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Global Initiative for Southeast Asia, along with other regional organizations.

International law lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University (FH UNAIR), Dr. Nilam Andalia Kurniasari, S.H., LL.M., participated as a delegate to the Indonesia 45th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group Meeting. Dr. Nilam, an expert in maritime law studies, is the only academician in the delegation representing Indonesia. She is a researcher at the Center for Maritime and Ocean Law Studies (MAROCLAW) FH UNAIR.

The meeting attended by Dr. Nilam discussed developments in the fields of regulations, policies, facilities, and infrastructure for sea transportation from each ASEAN member country; cooperation in the field of maritime transport involving ASEAN member countries; exchange information on best practices implemented by each ASEAN member country to improve the quality and efficiency of safety, health and environmental management at the ports of ASEAN member countries; as well as conveying developments in implementing cooperation in the transportation sector among ASEAN member countries, including the implementation of the Ballast Water Management Convention in the waters of the Malacca Strait and Singapore Strait and the ASEAN RO-RO Shipping Network.
